The Law of Attraction 101

The Law of Attraction is simple- whatever your put out into the Universe, you will get back. We attract into our lives not what we want, but what we are– or more specifically, what we think, feel, and say. Whatever vibrations we are giving out, ultimately will get reflected back to us. There as no such thing as “luck”. Or at least, not as much as we think there is.

For example, let’s say you’re single and looking to meet someone. But you spend most of your time feeling miserable, complaining that “all the good ones are taken” and “men are trash”. You will end up attracting more of the feeling of loneliness and misery into your life, and the men you meet will indeed be trash because the thoughts you are sending out are reflected back at you. On the other hand, have you ever found that when you were happy on your own and not looking for a relationship, you ended up in one anyway? The happy and confident vibrations you were sending out ended up attracting someone in, even if you weren’t actively seeking.

I’m doing more posts on the Law of Attraction in the future, but this one is an introduction to what it is, and the main things to bear in mind when trying to use it.

Set your intention

Be clear about what you want. When you’re trying to manifest something, it’s important to be specific. For example, if you’re looking for a new job, write down attributes you want the job to have such as location, pay, work-life balance. If you’re trying to manifest a relationship, write down a list of attributes you want your partner to have.

It’s important to make sure you know what you actually want though. For example some people try and manifest a partner and get caught up manifesting someone with a specific look or job, find that person, but it turns out they have a bad character. Take the time to think about what’s really important. The send out your intention into the Universe. Visualise it, script it, put it on your vision board, whatever works for you.

Think positive

When you think about what is you want to desire, make sure you’re thinking about what it would feel like to have that thing in your life, rather than focusing on the lack of it. If you focus on the lack of it, you attract more of the lack of it into your life. When you talk, make sure to use positive words, and avoid saying things like “I’m unlucky” as it then becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Detach

Have you ever found that when you drag yourself to a party with the hope that you might meet someone, it doesn’t happen, but sometimes you’re just out there having a good time someone shows up unexpectedly? When you make your order in a restaurant, you then sit back knowing your food is coming. It’s the same the the Universe. If you keep asking for something your mindset then shifts to lack and desperation which can end up pushing your desire further away. So the key is to detach, knowing what you want is on it’s way.

Act “as if”

The Universe matches the vibration you give out, so if you want to attract something, the best way to go about it is to act as if you already have it. If you had the job or promotion you want, how would you dress, act, behave? If you want a relationship, do you have time for someone? Is your living space set up for someone to come and stay? Act as though your ideal partner is watching your every move. Be the person they would want to be with.

Gratitude

The best way to attract great things into your life is to be grateful for the things you already have. If you focus on the things that are going wrong in your life, you’ll attract more bad things, but if you focus on what is going well, you’ll attract more good things into your life. Make sure to be grateful for each desire the Universe gifts you with, and for the things that aren’t yours yet, but are on their way.

    What if you have anxiety/depression caused by a chemical imbalance? We can’t always control our thoughts and emotions. Would that hurt the process?

      That’s the exact struggle I’m having. I think the key is to seek help and try and undo toxic thought patterns.

        It’s the same for me. i feel like I’m in a consistent “low vibration” despite trying to feel better. I recently did a post on my blog looking at manifesting and mental health in general but I didn’t come up with any definitive answers. I think it’s important not to beat yourself up if you’re struggling to feel happy. 🙂 There’s a good article by Rhiannon Day about negative thoughts affecting manifestations, I can link to it if anyone’s interested. 🙂

          Yeah I find MH blocks a lot of my ability to manifest. I will definitely read your article and the Rhiannon Day one. I’m currently reading a book called The Positive Habit to improve my thought processes.

    This is a great post. I need to practice the law of attraction more consistently. Its the reason I managed to buy my dream car last year in the exact colour I wanted after looking for months! X

    this is such a good post, one of the other people who commented on here mentioned how MH affects the law of attraction, because sometimes you just can’t help but have those negative thoughts and energies. I’ve been really working on it, and I agree, it’s just something you have to try your best at. If the law of attraction were easy, then everyone would be successful and have everything they want! Great post xx

      I agree. I think in future I will do posts on whether the Law of Attraction works and how to use the Law of Attraction if you’re coming from a really low place.
