I was chatting to some other bloggers recently, and a couple mentioned that they’ve run into trouble when dating as potential matches were put off by the fact that they write about, well, dating. Perhaps I’ve been lucky, as so far the guys who have read my blog said they liked it *touches wood*- although a lot of the men who contact me through my blog turn out to be weird (3 guesses why).
However, in my opinion, dating someone who writes about the subject ain’t such a bad idea.
Here are 5 reasons to date a dating blogger.
1. You might end up as a blog post either way
One common reservation people have about dating a dating blogger, is the worry that they may end up being immortalized in a blog post where they’re not portrayed in a flattering light.
However, this can happen whoever you date. For example, blogger Stephanie Yeboah doesn’t usually write about dating, however when a guy used her for a dare she wrote about it for Refinery 29 and the article went viral.
But the reason it went viral was because that guy was a dick. If you didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, no blog post about you is likely to gain more than 100 hits.
Basically, don’t be a dick, and you won’t end up as a viral article.
I’m not suggesting every dating blogger looks like a supermodel, does everything right, and ends up married with a kid by the age of 25. Obviously, that’s not the case.
However, it’s not a profession for wallflowers. If you’re writing about dating, chances are you’ve been on a fair few dates and have a bit of personality about you.
3. Free sex toys
Dating isn’t the most lucrative blogging niche. Sadly, it’s not a genre that comes with millions of followers, brand parterships, and free press trips abroad.
The two freebies you do get though, are free entry to dating events, and FREE SEX TOYS. So, could be a great way to spice things up in the bedroom.
Despite point 2 however, the people who write about dating are generally those who have been single for a while; the people who haven’t always had the best luck in dating itself. It’s fair to say those people have generally had their fair share of bad dating experiences.
So when their time comes and they meet Their Person, they’re not going to be ungrateful about it, and come out with bullshit statements like “RELATIONSHIPS ARE HARD TOO”, and “BOYFRIENDS ARE OVERRATED” commonly frequented by those who have been in back to back relationships since the age of 14. Nah, you’re going to get waited on hand and foot by someone who thanks their lucky stars every day that you’re in their life.
5. Sense of humour
Let’s face it, being single can suck sometimes. Dating can suck sometimes. But no-one wants to read post after post of constant complaining. So you have to develop a sense of humour. See the funny side of all the dick pics you receive, or that guy you were seeing who turned out to be into bestiality porn.
If you date a dating blogger, you won’t end up with a Negative Nancy. You’ll get a Glass-half-full Gloria, who can see the positives in any situation and have a laugh.
