I’m Alice, a London-dwelling twenty-something who may quite possibly have the worst luck in relationships out of any human being alive. So I decided to write a blog about it.
In school, I was the class freak. Super-clever, super-shy, frizzy hair, braces, and a foot taller than everyone else, I was completely invisible to the male population, unless they were taking the piss.
At 16, things turned around. I changed schools for sixth form, along with dying my hair and improving my style and make-up. I had my first kiss with a boy I met via MySpace (the vintage version of Facebook for younger readers!), and got a fair amount of attention from boys at parties, but an actual relationship still seemed to elude me.
Just before my 17th birthday, I met my First Love, which hit me like a tonne of bricks. After stringing me along for 4 months, he finally decided to give things a go. I then found out he was also seeing two other girls behind my back. Lovely.
My bad luck with men continued throughout university, until I met my Second Love. After messing me around a bit in second year, in third year we finally got together. And it was perfect. He bought me clothes. We set a date for me to meet his parents. We both told each other we’d never felt this way about anyone before.
Then, less than two weeks after the relationship became official, he 180d, and decided that he wasn’t good at relationships so it was better just to end it.
Since then, I’ve been working, travelling, and dating. A lot of dating. When you get into your twenties your social circle kind of dries up, so I’ve jumped on the online dating/ dating app bandwagon. My dates have ranged from “meh”, to “I can’t believe people like that actually exist”. But you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your Prince, so I’m ploughing on with “putting myself out there”. And now you can read about my adventures along the way.
