This Is Why You’re Single Book Review

One of the problems with a lot of the dating advice on the market today is that it’s a little out of date. With the explosion of dating apps and the cultural shift in morals, some of the dating advice books I absolutely LOVED in my late teens are a little out of date in today’s dating market with regards to some of the advice offered. And some “dating experts” are horrendously out of touch- not naming names but if you’ve been married for decades are you really qualified to be doling out dating advice in 2017?

One book that isn’t out of date though, is This Is Why You’re Single, by Laura Lane and Angela Spera, published by Blink Publishing. Inspired by their own dating misadventures, the authors decided to put together a sketch comedy show in 2013, and following on from this a book and a podcast in 2015. And for anyone currently on the dating scene- it’s so relatable!

The book is split into 5 main sections, which is in turn split into various chapters- one for each potential mistake you could be making in your dating life. Each chapter follows the same format- they start with a fictional short story set in the modern dating scene, then go onto a “Moral Of The Story”, and potentially a few dating tips, such pick-up lines you can use to meet guys in various locations. Don’t want to give too much away, but a teaser of some of the chapters are “You Don’t Know How To Meet People IRL” and “You’re In Love With Your Gay BFF” Some of the stories are pretty hilarious- and very relatable for anyone who’s been on the dating scene for a while. There are a few extras in the book too- such as a guide to various “Man Dolls” you can meet.

Overall, I’d say the book is a humorous take on modern dating. Although there are some good gems of advice in there, if you’re looking for super-serious advice on how to meet The One, this probably isn’t the book for you. For groundbreaking new advice, I’d go with Why Men Love Bitches or Get The Guy. However if you’re an online dating veteran looking for a decent poolside read, or you’re looking for a Secret Santa gift for a single-and-looking friend, this is your book.

God, I can’t even remember the last time I even really thought about dating but IF or when I eventually feel the urge to get back in the game I’ll definitely check this book out xx

My first thoughts were oh god I don’t know if I’d want to know. Glad they have made it more light hearted with their stories. I think sometimes it’s too easy to get caught up in the should’s and should not’s and that can be equally as negative. x

I am always interested in reading books about dating and relationships 🙂 I might check this out! I would like to give a heads up to any ladies who are single and looking for a man, then check out Matthew Hussey. He has a YouTube channel so search his videos there. I find him very helpful with dating and life advice 🙂

“not naming names but if you’ve been married for decades are you really qualified to be doling out dating advice in 2017?”

Not qualified, don’t want to be qualified. EVER.

I hope people today can learn to be content within themselves, and then if the time is right, learn to be happy in love with someone else. I’m glad there are advice books out there, and I can only hope that some of the advice is actually good.
